Riogrande, part of the large Calacatta family, is a relatively recent material obtained from tunnel excavation not far from the Lorano and Fantiscritti basins: Riogrande is a material that is enjoying growing success due to its very elegant but at the same time very material, thanks to the rust-colored veins that cross the wefts of the main texture tending towards arabesque, giving the aesthetics of the finished products an impact of strong authenticity and personality.

Origins and Extraction
“Riogrande” marble is a type of creamy-white marble extracted in the Lunigiana area, in the municipality of Carrara in Tuscany, Italy. Lunigiana is an area that hosts some of the oldest marble quarries in the world, with a multi-millennial history of extraction, dating back to around 2,500 years ago.
From the outset, the quarry in the tunnel was worked on with diamond wire and open chain sawing without the use of explosives, soon this quarry too will probably be the scene of one of the most revolutionary technological innovations in the stone quarrying sector: the consolidation of the bank and the extraction of the single block without overturning the bank: this technology has made it possible to increase the overall yield of the quarry impressively (from about 30% to over 90%), making it a global model of sustainability all over the world; in the future development of the quarry, the tunnel extraction technique is also increasingly planned, which further contributes to reducing the environmental impact. In this sense, the appropriate technical checks are being carried out to activate this innovative methodology by 2024.
