Origin and extraction
“Calacatta” marble is a type of white marble extracted in the Lunigiana area, in the municipality of Carrara in Tuscany, Italy. Lunigiana is a region that is home to some of the oldest marble quarries in the world, with a history of quarrying dating back some 2,500 years.
Since the 70s cultivated with diamond wire in the open without the use of explosives, the quarry is cultivated with the classic method of overturning the bank, and all the regulations are scrupulously observed to minimize environmental impact and for optimal waste management.
Grain, background and veins
- Very fine grain, not visible to the naked eye.
- Warm white background present in large areas even with a very pure tone, with possible creamy-grey shades that sometimes veer into slightly greenish-hazel tones.
- Veins of clear morphology and often large size, sometimes more subtle, of a medium-dark gray color with variations on shades of greenish-hazelnut.
